The Modi government is launching a 'Prime Minister Shram Yogi Man Dhan Yojana' (PM-SYM) for unorganized sector workers like garbage collectors, domestic workers, rickshaw pullers, laundresses and farm laborers across the country.  Under this scheme, the central government gives an annual pension of Rs 36,000 after the age of 60.  According to government figures, there are more than 42 crore workers in the country who could benefit under the scheme.

 Who can avail the benefits of the scheme?

 The central government's scheme is for the unorganized sector.  The age for registration under this scheme should be from 18 to 40 years.  Also keep in mind that the monthly income should not exceed Rs. 15,000.

 How to apply?

 You can find your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) on EPFO ​​India's website.  You will be able to register in it.  You can also apply by visiting the LIC branch office, ESIC, EPFO ​​or the Central and State Government Labor Office.  Labor departments in some states are also campaigning to increase enrollment.

 Who cannot avail the benefits of the scheme?

 Individuals working in the organized sector or employees of Employees Provident Fund (EPFO), National Pension Scheme (NPS) or State Employees Insurance Corporation (ESIC) or income tax payers are not eligible for this scheme.

 Premium will be charged according to age.  If one joins the scheme at the age of 18, he will have to deposit Rs 55 per month.  A 29-year-old has to deposit Rs 100 and a 40-year-old has to deposit Rs 200, which is the maximum premium.  You have to deposit this amount till the age of 60 years.  The more premium you deposit, the more amount the government will deposit in your name.
